The Cubs might not be done with making moves and could be in the running for the same candidates the Boston Red Sox are linked to.
Chicago swung a huge trade to acquire Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros. The National League Central club seems willing to commit to the 2025 season and could look to upgrade their starting rotation.
The Seattle Times reported Friday that the Cubs had discussions with the Mariners this offseason with an interest in Luis Castillo. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale on Saturday reported that Chicago remains busy trying to trade Cody Bellinger and has an interest in Miami Marlins starter Jesús Luzardo.
Boston reportedly is working “tirelessly” toward making another trade after acquiring Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox. Multiple reports stated Castillo is one of the Red Sox’s targets as they remain “persistent” in talks.
Luzardo hasn’t been linked to Boston, but he could be an ideal fit for Alex Cora’s side if they’re looking to add another lefty to the rotation.
Other potential suitors like the New York Yankees also likely are looming in the market as the Bronx Bombers showed when they traded for closer Devin Williams. So the Red Sox will face competition for the top names in the market.
