Delhi is pushing for a permanent ban on firecrackers in its bid to combat severe air and noise pollution, particularly during the winter months. The Supreme Court is deliberating the proposal, seeking inputs from NCR states. While experts acknowledge fireworks' role in pollution, they stress the need for broader measures to target vehicular, industrial, and agricultural pollution. Alongside this, the court has directed steps to promote electric vehicles and ensure compensation for construction workers impacted by pollution-control restrictions.
