The Boston Red Sox made an impact move to acquire Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox and paid the price to do so.
The Red Sox surrendered their last two first-round draft choices, catcher Kyle Teel (2023) and outfielder Braden Montgomery (2024), along with infielder Chase Meidroth and right-handed pitcher Wikelman Gonzalez.
The Red Sox held onto young talents, Triston Casas and Wilyer Abreu as well as their top three prospects. There’s still plenty of talent in the Boston farm system. But the landscape looks a bit different after the blockbuster trade with the White Sox.
Here’s how MLB Pipeline reassessed the top 10 prospects in the Red Sox system following the trade:
1. Roman Anthony, OF
2. Marcelo Mayer, SS
3. Kristian Campbell, INF/OF
4. Franklin Arias, SS
5. Yoeilin Cespedes, SS
6. Miguel Bleis, OF
7. Luis Perales, RHP
8. David Sandlin, RHP
9. Jhostynxon Garcia, OF
10. Richard Fitts, RHP
The Red Sox also traded impact prospects Yoan Moncada and Michael Kopech as headliners in the last big trade with Chicago in 2016 to get Chris Sale. Chicago surely hopes to get more out of this transaction to jump-start its ongoing rebuild.
