After three years, Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed, twisty series Severance is finally coming back for a second season. This intense, hilarious, and haunting show—created by Dan Erickson, with direction from Ben Stiller and Aoife McArdle—has become not only one of Apple’s best-reviewed shows, but also a big hit for anyone who's ever had a job, and felt going to work was like living an entirely separate life.
In the series, characters separate their work memories from their real-life memories, resulting in several mysteries, many of which are still unfolding.
So, what’s happening at Lumon now? Who's back for Severance Season 2? Is there a trailer? What’s it all about? Here’s your complete guide to Severance Season 2.
The critically acclaimed sci-fi drama will return for its second season on January 17, 2025. Unlike Season 1, which only had 9 episodes, Severance will have 10 episodes in total.
The first episode debuts on Friday, January 17, and additional episodes drop on Fridays after that. The Season 2 finale will air on March 21, 2025.
Apple tends to drop new episodes at midnight, Eastern Time, so technically, these episodes will appear late on Thursday nights/early on Friday mornings.
The latest, full-length trailer for Severance Season 2, reveals that even though the main characters rebelled against Lumon in Season 1, they're still being welcomed back to the company with open arms. They don't know why yet, but it's clear the mysteries of what Lumon actually does are deeper than previously suspected.
There also appears to be some kind of twist coming with Mark's (Adam Scott) supposedly deceased wife, Gemma (Dichen Lachman ), who, at Lumon, goes by "Miss Casey." We also see Mark confronting Harmony (Patricia Arquette) about her secrets, too.
Severance Season 2 will see the return of all the major stars from Season 1, which includes:
But, this season will also see Mark get a new set of co-workers, which includes Bob Balaban, Stefano Carannante, Alia Shawkat, Sarah Bock, and Gwendoline Christie all in yet-to-be-named roles.
The primary premise Severance Season 2 will remain the same as Season 1; will Mark and his colleagues ever escape from the vicious cycle of their employer, Lumon? And, can any of them fully integrate their severed memories back into a complete life?
Season 1 ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger, as Mark had started to reveal the inner-workings of Lumon to people on the outside world. Because Season 2 sees Mark back in the office, seemingly working for Lumon again, the mysteries of the show are likely about to get much deeper. Why he has all new co-workers in the trailer has not be fully revealed, nor is it clear if any of the characters will ever get true fulfillment.
With its dark take on office and work culture, Severance Season 2 is bound to be excellent TV, even if its comforting qualities are very, very bittersweet.
