Destiny Udogie’s agent has now spoken about how his client’s move to Tottenham came about, confessing that AC Milan also showed interest in the left-back.
Destiny Udogie’s first season in the Premier League was an extremely impressive one, with the Italian hitting the ground running after arriving at Spurs from Udinese.
However, the 22-year-old has struggled to replicate the same standard of performance this season, being guilty of a few defensive errors.
The defender confessed last month that some of his displays have not been up to scratch, admitting that he is constantly looking to improve from his mistakes.
Destiny Udogie’s agent, Stefano Antonelli has now spoken about how his client’s move to Spurs came about, revealing that AC Milan was also keen on the former Udinese man but never made an offer.
When asked about the Rossoneri’s interest in Udogie, he told PianetaMilan: “There was only interest and nothing more. Probably if we speak to the Milan executives today they will beat their chest three times, but at the time as an alternative to Theo [Hernandez] they rightly believed that it was too important an investment.”
Antonelli revealed that in the end, no other Italian club was able to match what Spurs were willing to pay for the defender.
He added: “Also because Tottenham paid €20m euros for him plus €6m in bonuses, it would have been a particularly important investment. These are the moments in the market that can happen.”
While assessing Udogie‘s performances this season, it is important to take into account that the left-back was coming off a major injury in the summer.
Given that his game is dependent on athleticism and explosivity, he was always going to take a few months to get up to speed.
It is also worth keeping in mind that the Italian only turned 22 years of age last month, with many tending to forget just how young he is.
