SHELBY, Ohio (WCMH) -- A Richland County police officer was stabbed and a suspect killed after a confrontation at a Shelby fast food restaurant late Saturday night.
According to the Shelby Police Department, officers attempted to serve an arrest warrant at an Arby's restaurant on Mansfield Avenue at approximately 11:18 p.m.
When a Shelby police sergeant made contact with the suspect, Tyler Jacobs, Jacobs stabbed the officer in the neck with a knife. The officer managed to get away from Jacobs, at which point, Jacobs, still holding the knife, began moving toward the officer, police said, which is when the officer pulled his gun and shot Jacobs.
A second officer at the scene rendered medical aid to both Jacobs and the sergeant until medics arrived. Both men were taken to the hospital, where Jacobs was pronounced dead. The officer is listed in a stable condition.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
