YOUNGSVILLE, La. (KLFY) - In Youngsville, voters elected a new Police Chief. Jean Paul Broussard faced current chief, Cody Louviere in a runoff election, where Broussard came out on top.
This runoff comes after the primary election in November ended with Broussard receiving 46% of vote, while Louviere received 40 percent of the vote.
Broussard won tonight's runoff by 15 votes. Broussard won with 1,134 votes, while Louviere had 1,119 votes.
Broussard spoke with News 10 after receiving the results. He says he feels amazed to win after being on the campaign trail for months.
"It means the world to me, but I could not be here today without all my friends, my supporters, the citizens of Youngsville, my wife, my daughter, all their support and their help to do this because it takes an army to run a campaign, it's not just one person, it takes an entire army to make sure everything gets done, a lot of work, a lot of hard work, a lot of groundwork, knocking on doors, meeting people, greeting the citizens, hearing their concerns, listening to them," said Broussard.
Broussard says he is excited to get to work as the new Police Chief next year.
"I think a lot of the hard work that everybody's put in made this happen, it's not just me, it's the citizens of Youngsville, sixty percent of them voted for a change in the first election, so it looks like they came out and voted for that change again, and I promise them with hard work and dedication that we will have a top notch police department," said Broussard.
