One La Liga club are hoping to take advantage of a Tottenham defender’s desire to switch teams in January to push through a transfer.
The player in question is Sergio Reguilon, who has not played a single minute for Ange Postecoglou‘s side this season.
It was reported by Super Deporte a few days ago that Getafe are ready to ‘launch into the signing’ and prepared to ‘negotiate hard’ to bring him on board in January.
The outlet pointed out that Reguilon is surplus to requirements at the North London club, who have made it clear that he is free to leave.
Estadio Deportivo have now provided an update on Getafe’s pursuit of the left-back.
They state that the La Liga club’s negotiations for Reguilon are still in the ’embryonic phase’ but they can take advantage of the defender’s desperation to leave Tottenham in January.
The 27-year-old could potentially finish the season without playing a single minute if he were to stay at Spurs, which he wants to avoid ‘at all costs’.
The La Liga club are thus said to be ‘confident that they can close the deal’ for Reguilon either on loan or through a permanent transfer.
Reguilon has six months left on his contract, but based on recent reports, it seems that Spurs are not expecting a fee for the former Real Madrid man.
It was claimed by CaughtOffside last month that the full-back wants to terminate his deal and leave on a free transfer in January.
The outlet asserted that Lilywhites are open to paying off the final six months of the defender’s deal as they are keen to get him off their wage bill.
