Ah, the holidays. It’s the perfect time of year to let bygones be bygones — except, that is, if you’re two exes caught up in an alleged cheating scandal with a former One Tree Hill actress. Last week, former U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team player Ashlyn Harris went on the Naked Sports podcast and confessed that she and ex-wife Ali Krieger “weren’t intimate” toward the end of their marriage. But on Wednesday, Krieger appeared to strike back at Harris’s claims with a strongly worded Instagram statement. While Harris wasn’t called out directly, the subtext is glaring.
“I’m overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support I’ve received this last year. However, amidst this warmth, I’ve also had to confront a wave of dishonesty and misinformation regarding my marriage and personal life,” Krieger wrote. “While I’m not yet prepared to make a formal statement, I feel compelled to address this currently to prevent further distortion of the truth.”
“Above all else, my unwavering priority remains the protection and well-being of my children. I promise to share more when my heart feels ready,” she continued. “In this vulnerable time, I humbly ask for privacy and understanding from all involved, as I grapple with the profound changes in my personal life.”
In other words, it sounds like the soccer stars’ divorce proceedings could get a lot nastier. The former partners, who share two children, were married for nearly four years when Harris filed for divorce in September 2023. The 39-year-old quickly debuted a new relationship with Sophia Bush, prompting speculation that she’d stepped out on her marriage (both Harris and Bush have denied these rumors). Krieger has since moved on with Scottish soccer player Jen Beattie, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that she’s garnered the rather loud support of Megan Rapinoe, Sue Bird, and the entire NJ/NY Gotham FC soccer team. I can’t speak for Harris, but I’d probably lay low for a while if I got on the bad side of a bunch of professional athletes. Happy holidays, I think?
