LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York is receiving state funding to address food insecurity during the holiday season. New York State leaders said a total of $27 million is being awarded to 11 food banks around the state to buy products from local farmers and host distribution events.
The regional food bank has already expanded its efforts this year by taking over the Thanksgiving meal distribution program that was previously run by Equinox. About 150,000 meals were given out across the Capital Region on Saturday.
The food bank said it is seeing an increased need for help this year.
