Indian pace spearhead reclaimed the top spot in the ICC Test bowler rankings. The vice-captain of the Indian Test team has now become the No.1 ranked bowler in the longest format of the game. This comes after his brilliant performance in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar series in Perth.
Bumrah took a total of 8 wickets in the first Test which included a sensational 5-wicket haul in the first innings and a 3-wicket haul in the second. The stand-in captain dismissed key Australian batters in both the innings and was even awarded with the Player of the Match award for his splendid performance.
Bumrah climbed 2 spots in the rankings, overtaking South African pacer Kagiso Rabada and Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood. The Indian pacer was last seen on the premier position in Test bowler rankings back in February of this year.
Alongside Bumrah, fellow Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj also rose 3 spots in the rankings, propelling him to the 25th position. Siraj picked a total of 5 wickets across the 2 innings in the first Australia Test.
Coming to the batters, India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal climbed to the number 2 spot following his tremendous century against the Baggy Greens in Perth. After getting dismissed for a duck in the first innings, Jaiswal came back in style and played a glorious knock of 161 to carry India to a massive second inning total.
Apart from him, Australia batter Travis Head climbed 3 spots and reached the number 10 position while India’s star batter Virat Kohli climbed 9 spots and reached the 13th position following a fantastic unbeaten century in Perth.
