If you follow Katharine McPhee, chances are you’ve seen her and David Foster’s son Rennie rocking it on the drums. The three-year-old went viral earlier this year for his drumming skills, and apparently, much to his papa’s dismay, he’s taking a break from the instrument.
In a recent interview with People on the red carpet for the 58th Annual Country Music Association Awards, McPhee revealed her little son is no longer interested in drumming…. for now at least.
“If you’ve noticed, we’ve kind of stopped posting so many videos. He’s not as interested as he was,” she said. “We were never making him play. We were never demanding that he play. But he’s just sort of lost interest.”
While she’s accepted this, apparently, Foster is “devastated” that Rennie isn’t about music right now, and is instead into things his mama likes.
She added, “He’s very much into me. Obviously, I’ll take it ‘cause I love it, but he’s really into everything Mommy. Just being active and running and playing with his toys and things like that, so he’s just taken a little hiatus. My husband’s devastated about it.”
For those who don’t know, McPhee and Foster got engaged in 2018 after a year of dating. They married a year later, in June 2019, and less than two years later, in Feb 2021, they welcomed their son, Remi.
In a previous interview with E! News, McPhee opened up about her pregnancy and postpartum experience, admitting that she had a “love-hate relationship” with pregnancy and “struggled” with her body changing.
What I didn’t expect was to have the baby and then be so at peace with my body,” she said. “I had this, wow, like this huge appreciation of what my body had just done and given me… I wish that I’d given myself a little bit more of that grace through the pregnancy.”
