What a moment for the former Blue Devil
After last spring’s wave of transfers, we processed it all and accepted it, because what choice do you have? It’s a new era.
Still, it was a hard moment for most Duke fans when Jeremy Roach announced he was transferring. In an age of guys leaving early - not unpacking their bags, as Mike Krzyzewski used to say - Roach was a loyalist. It was a bitter pill to swallow.
We’re paying attention to all the transfers, but Roach - like Jaylen Blakes - gets special respect.
So we were really happy to see what happened in Baylor’s double-overtime comeback win against St. John’s Thursday night as Roach got to live the dream every kid has in his driveway of hitting the game winning shot as time runs out.
Baylor was down 98-93 with 18 seconds left. VJ Edgecombe hit a three and then Baylor fouled Zuby Ejiofor, who whiffed on both.
Then former Miami Hurricane Norchad Omier got the rebound on the second shot and tossed it to Roach, who hit a three as time expired to give Baylor a dramatic 99-98 win.
Couldn’t be happier for him!
