ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Food, Football and 5K races. Every year around or on Thanksgiving Day, families celebrate the holiday with exercising.
In the spirit of giving, local communities and groups around the Capital Region host Turkey Trot races to support local non-profits and charities in the area. With Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 28, here's where you can find and register for a race this season.
On Nov. 2, Broadalbin-Perth will be hosting their second annual Turkey Trot and Fun Run at the Broadalbin-Perth High School. The event will feature both a 5K and a 1-mile race for kids.
Check in for the races begin at 9 a.m. and the 5K race will begin at 11 a.m. with the fun run starting after the 5K. The 5k registration fee is $25 for adults, $20 for students and fees for the fun run are $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Participants can register before the event online or at the check-in table day of.
The Our Towne Bethlehem Turkey Trot 5K is set for Thanksgiving Day at 9 a.m. at the American Legion in Delmar. Runners, walkers, strollers, dogs, cats and kids are welcome at this race.
Registration is available online through Eventbrite. All participants must show proof of registration to pick up their packet.
The 13th annual Killington 5K Turkey Trot is set for 9:30 a.m. at the Pickle Barrel in Killington on Thanksgiving Day. The 5K is open to walkers and runners and will take place in all weather conditions.
Participants can register on the Killington Turkey Trot website for $30 before race day and $35 on race day at the event.
On Thanksgiving Day, Ferncliff Forest nature preserve hosts a Turkey Trot event to keep the preserve free for year-round use. The 5k race is open to kids, animals and walkers.
The race will begin at 8 a.m. but a participant's time won't start until they cross the starting line. All runners and walkers must start their race by 8:15 a.m., according to organizers. Participants can sign up online for $38.10, as it's recommended to pick up a running shirt and bib the night before.
The 23rd annual Christopher Dailey 5K Turkey Trot is set for Thanksgiving Day at 8:30 a.m. in front of Saratoga Springs City Hall. Runners can register for their spot for $30 before Nov. 18 and for $34 on and after Nov. 19.
You can register on the Christopher Dailey Foundation website until November 27 at 8 p.m. There will be no day-of registrations.
The 77th Troy Turkey Trot, the 12th oldest in the nation, is set for Thanksgiving Day. There are several options including the 10K at 8 a.m., the 5K at 10 a.m., the Grade School Mile at 9:30 a.m., the Walk at 9:35 a.m. and the virtual races.
Registration for the races are open until the morning of the race. For race information or to register for a specific race, visit the Troy Turkey Trot website.
The 16th Run Off That Turkey Trot 5K and 2-Mile Walk is set for Saturday, November 30 at 9 a.m. at Altamont Village Hall. These runs will benefit local food pantries and the Caring Closet.
Currently, registration is available online for various fees from $13 to $27. Participants can register at the race for a fee of $35.
