CORONATION Street fans were left in a rage as they slammed one of the soap’s legacy characters.
Bethany Platt was first introduced onto the street in 2000, when Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) fell pregnant when she was just 12-years-old.
Since then, the character (now played by Lucy Fallon) has been involved in many significant storylines on Coronation Street.
One of which included a controversial grooming storyline when she was groomed and abused by Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper).
After being released from prison, he’s since been jailed again for breaking bail conditions.
This was after he was blamed for Lauren Bolton’s (Cait Fitton) disappearance.
However, it has since come to light that Lauren was alive all along, and it was corrupt lawyer Joel Deering (Calum Lill) who was behind all the crimes.
Although the police are suspicious, Bethany seemingly could not handle the fact that Nathan was not actually to blame.
And as she thought that he might be released from prison again, she got on the wrong side of viewers when she snapped at Lauren.
Users then took to social media forum site Reddit, as they slammed the character for her recent actions.
On a new thread, one user asked: “Can Bethany get anymore annoying?”
And it seems that many others couldn’t help but agree as they echoed the sentiments in the replies section.
Another user replied: “She is like one of those fake ‘girls girl’,
“She was talking about helping Lauren when she thought it was Nathan but now that Lauren reveals she was abused by someone walking free BETHANY IS MAD and I don’t get why.”
While a third explained: “She’s so annoying honestly like what does she expect Lauren to do still pretend it’s Nathan as well as Joel when Nathan is completely innocent.
“You’re not helping the poor girl. Just accept it wasn’t Nathan. Lauren’s got bigger things to think about rather than listen to you explode at her.”
Bethany is the daughter of Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) and her classmate Neil Fearns (Paul Holowaty). Sarah fell pregnant at the age of just 12-years-old, much to the horror of her family.
When she was a child, Bethany’s was involved in a major storyline when she took ecstasy tablets. This was when her uncle, David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd), hid them in her doll.
The character departed the soap in 2007 with her mum for a new life in Milan. Her return storyline saw the teenager run away back to Weatherfield with a new actress as Lucy Fallon took over the role.
Storylines since then have included major school bullying. Her teachers said she was skipping school as she told them that she was attending grief counselling. Sarah and David soon realised that Bethany intercepted letters and emails from the school. She was being tormented by a group of girls, which included her mainbully Lauren (Shannon Flynn).
Gary notices the bullying and reports it to the school. Due to several incidents, Lauren makes out that Bethany is the bully and they are both suspended. During this time, Bethany helps David out at the salon and Lauren comes in for a treatment. David then threatened her to leave his family alone. This was before she was expelled from the school after other girls came forward about the torment.
Bethany was later at the centre of one of Corrie’s darkest storylines when she fell under the spell of her older boyfriend and sexual predator Nathan Curtis. The controversial scenes saw Nathan groom and manipulate the 16-year-old before coercing her into sleeping with his friends, with one of them raping her.
The storyline was based on a real life story and also drew inspiration from the child sex abuse ring in Rochdale, which saw nine men jailed in 2012.
“I’ve sensed mean girl vibes from Bethany since she first appeared. Never trusted her or her weirdass relationship with Daniel,” noted a fourth viewer.
Whilst someone else simply stated: “Can’t stand her,”
And a sixth soap fan added: “She’s so obnoxious when she says ‘oi!’.”
This comes after actress Lucy Fallon revealed that she is pregnant with her second child.
The 28-year-old soap star shared the happy news with an adorable video featuring Ryan Ledson and their son, Sonny Jude, one.
Lucy previously quit Weatherfield in 2020 after five years, but returned last year.
However, she may have to take another break with her forthcoming new arrival.
