Princess Eugenie got candid about motherhood in a recent appearance on the Table Manners podcast. So candid, in fact, that she shared some information that not even her husband Jack Brooksbank knew. The royal couple shares two young kiddos. There’s 2-year-old August — AKA “Augie” — and 5-month-old Ernest — AKA “Ernie.” And yes, we love the royal family nicknames.
Even though Augie is just learning his ABCs (we presume), Eugenie is already thinking about his future education. And while she “loved” her time away at Marlborough College, she doesn’t want to send her kids away anytime soon. If all goes to plan, she won’t be sending them to boarding school until they’re at least 13.
“My husband went to boarding school at 8,” she explained. “Looking at my sons now, I want to hang out with them. I like playing with them. I don’t want them to leave.”
Aww! We don’t blame her. So many parents have a tough time sending their kids off to college at 18, let alone to school at 8!
“I wouldn’t send them at 8 — I haven’t told Jack that,” Eugenie continued.
Oh sh*t. Well, that complicates things. Because even though Jack probably wants to continue to spend time with his boys, he may also want to keep with his family’s tradition. How much wiggle room is there on this one? What we wouldn’t give to be a fly on the wall when Jack hears the news!
We’re not too worried, though. That’s a long way off and it sounds like the couple has plenty of downtime to talk about these kinds of things while their sons sleep. When asked on the podcast how she’s sleeping with two young kids, Eugenie said — much to the envy of parents everywhere — she sleeps “like a log.”
“I think I’ve got magic children that take after me and Jack. They love sleeping,” she said. “Augie’s up a bit early, but Ernie sleeps ’til 8 in the morning … I think they heard me say when they were in my tummy, ‘You will sleep because if I don’t sleep, I’m a dragon.’ Sleep’s integral to me.”
Same, sis! That has officially become our new pregnancy mantra. No more reading books or playing music for the baby in utero. Just constantly repeating, “You will sleep because if I don’t sleep, I’m a dragon.”
