Quick thoughts from South Florida Sun Sentinel staffers on the Miami Dolphins’ blowout victory over the Denver Broncos at Hardrock Stadium in Miami Gardens:
This was a complete butt-kicking. The Dolphins dominated in every way. The offense established a franchise record for points, the defense was impressive as it made key stops and forced turnovers, and special teams was steady. The only thing to say is, “Bring on Buffalo!!”
This is what the Dolphins look like when they’re clicking on all cylinders. Tua Tagovailoa completed his first 17 passes, hitting Tyreek Hill and his other receivers with Jaylen Waddle out. The run game was sensational. The defense got stops and forced turnovers. Miami is 3-0 and on to a date with Buffalo next week.
Yes, Denver may be in the conversation for the first pick in next year’s draft. But, rest assured, defensive coordinators across the league are deeply concerned with the Dolphins’ three weeks of tape, and their more than 500 yards per game. What an awesome display.
The Dolphins broke the franchise record for points scored in a game — with 14:55 left in the game. The previous record of 55 points had stood since Thanksgiving of 1977 against the Cardinals in St. Louis, when Bob Griese threw for six touchdowns. Backups played from that point onward.
This team is so unfathomably fast, it sort of makes the Super Bowl champ St. Louis Rams and the “Greatest Show on Turf” look a little sluggish by comparison. When that pass offense also has two lightning-fast backs and a seemingly waterproof offensive line, Tyreek Hill and Tua Tagovailoa are purely terrifying for defensive coordinators. Whew, next week in Buffalo. They win that game, and this may become Secretariat at the 1973 Belmont. Unapproachable.
