The mystique of the intimidating Black Krrsantan was destroyed by C-3PO's secret weapon. The droid proved that the Wookiee is ultimately no match for his hidden method of defense.
Since he first appeared in comics, Black Krrsantan has been a formidable presence. The gladiator-turned-bounty hunter has worked alongside Boba Fett, and has fought Obi-Wan Kenobi. As a Wookiee capable of ripping the arms out of peoples’ sockets, he has a particular advantage over most of his opponents. Unfortunately, his confidence might be his weakness, as seen in Darth Vader #15 (2015), written by Kieron Gillen with art by Salvador Larroca.
After Black Krrsantan attacks Han Solo, he goes for C-3PO and instantly dismantles him. However, as he tears the protocol droid apart, C-3PO electrocutes Krrsantan, causing him to be knocked out. It appears to be a built-in defense system intended to harm anyone who means to hurt a droid. As an effect, Black Krrsantan loses the imposing image and sense of mystery that he previously had. C-3PO has been frequently characterized as one of the most anxious and concerned characters in the Star Wars galaxy, so seeing him take down Krrsantan while his body is compromised sours the Wookiee’s feared image.
Fans might have thought that Boba Fett falling to his presumed death in Return of the Jedi was funny as it felt out of character for the bounty hunter. Similarly, this panel from Darth Vader #15 makes it difficult to take Black Krrsantan seriously as a threat. Even without arms, C-3PO isn’t to be messed with. However, the moment raises a question regarding when 3PO is dismantled in both Attack of the Clones and The Empire Strikes Back. In both instances, the droid is without arms, and it appears that his defense mechanism should have come into play. If the mechanism doesn’t always work, it makes sense that someone like Black Krrsantan wouldn’t account for the possibility of being shocked.
Although The Book of Boba Fett garnered more fans for the Wookiee’s intimidating portrayal, the series also showed how he isn’t invincible. The tough bounty hunter isn’t indestructible, but the idea that he might be beyond harm attributed to him a sense of mystique. Now that a dismantled C-3PO has shown that he can get the upper hand on Black Krrsantan, that mystery has been alleviated, almost exclusively for comedic effect.
