After Hailee Steinfeld reached a new high in popularity after her role in Hawkeye, fans took to Reddit in a thread started by Alive-Ad to fancast the actress in potential DC Comics-inspired projects. Though it's likely Steinfeld will be occupied by future Marvel projects, it's not unheard of for an actor to have a role in both.
Most of the suggestions surrounded characters known to be part of the Teen Titans, as Steinfeld's role as Kate Bishop defined her as the perfect fit for a young, aspiring hero.
A character that DC has no current plans to make an appearance in the DCEU is Starfire. This could work perfectly for Steinfeld, as by the time DC has a plan for the project, she could be nearing the end of her tenure as Hawkeye.
Redditor Wisconsinmann says "It'd be interesting to see her as Starfire." Steinfeld fits the role well with the only live action adaptation currently being on HBO Max's Titans. Starfire is a highly powerful alien, and it would be interesting for Steinfeld to take on such a different role from her previous superhero gig.
It would be hard to detach fans of the Zack Snyder films from Amy Adams' performance as Lois Lane, especially given how passionate they have been to see a return of Cavill as Superman. For this casting to work, there would likely have to be a new Superman as well.
One Redditor, Recent_Finger9552 noted that Steinfeld's Lois wouldn't fit alongside Henry's Superman, saying "I love Cavill but age difference is too much and Clark is supposed to be younger then Lois."
For an actress currently on contract to play a current role in a different major franchise, a lesser known and character may be the perfect route, as it may result in less required film appearances. If this were the case, Spoiler could be a great option for Steinfeld, if DC ever wanted to expand the Batman family after Batgirl.
Redditor BloodyRedBats says "Of all the Batgirls she’d make the best Stephanie Brown" affirming their support for the role. They followed it by saying that they didn't want Steinfeld to be type casted simply for how she played Kate Bishop, and would want her to play a character that could push her limits as an actor.
Possibly best known as one of the main characters of animated series Young Justice, this would mean Steinfeld's second appearance as an archery wielding hero. This is another character that could fit well in a live action Teen Titans or Young Justice project.
Redditor KhanKurgan_6678 analyzes this one perfectly, saying "Artemis (Artemis Crock), She plays tough, no bull-talking characters before, & theirs a lot of room to breath with Artemis she can create a fully developed character, while staying true to her origins."
Another younger character that would be a strong addition to a Teen Titans project, or perhaps as an companion for Sasha Calle's Supergirl character. Steinfeld could definitely fit this role well.
Redditor Wisconsinmann simply says "Haley would make a great Miss Martin" in agreement of the casting. If the writers wanted to take a similar approach as they did in Young Justice, with Miss Martian being new to the planet and trying to fit in, Steinfeld's amazing performance in True Grit could be a comparison to draw from.
Though Teagan Croft is well casted as Raven on Titans, a movie adaptation of the young superhero squad would likely take a different direction with the character's adaptation. Raven is considered one of the most powerful Titans characters.
Redditor Dramatic_Insect36 says "Raven would be perfect. She looks more like Raven than the one in Titans." The comment received some debate in support of Croft's performance, but everyone in agreement of Steinfeld's capabilities. Raven would be another example of Steinfeld pushing her acting chops, as Raven is often a darker and more complex character.
One DC character long overdue for a new live screen adaptation is Zatanna, who hasn't been seen in live action since Serinda Swann played her in Smallville. Yes, it's been that long. A Justice League: Dark project was mentioned at one point, which could be a good way to introduce the character. Steinfeld's background in stage performance could assist her in playing the stage magician.
Redditor BasicallyImjustLazy writes "Other roles I could see her playing is Zatanna or Donna Troy (Wonder Girl). I think Hailee would be great for either role, especially Zatanna!" The comment was met with much agreement, as fans can imagine Hailee playing the magic user, who's considered one of the most powerful Young Justice characters.
Another character who fans believe to have been perfectly casted in Titans, then ruined by poor writing, is Donna Troy. Perhaps with the Wonder Woman films continuing to succeed, a future sequel with Donna Troy could feature Hailee in the role. Her role as Kate Bishop could help her a lot in a future sidekick role in Wonder Woman. She knows how to play the learning partner, but also knows how to steal the show and become a hero of her own.
One Redditor, AgentOfSPYRAL says "I could see it but the woman in Titans is so perfect for that role." Though Conor Leslie has lots of support, a film adaptation would likely go in another direction.
It was Mary Elizabeth Winstead who played the Huntress in 2020's Birds of Prey movie, but there has been no plan for a sequel or return for the character. If a future project intends to take a different direction, Hailee could be a nice fit for the character, especially since this is another option for Hailee to take a more casual approach to the DC Universe while her main focus is on her MCU role.
A Redditor, follyofgrimm joked "Huntress. She’s good with a bow." Of course, the actress would have to abandon her archery skills for Huntress' usual crossbow.
The top voted comment on the thread expressed desire to see Hailee has Batgirl. An unlikely scenario, given that Leslie Grace's Batgirl film will be premiering later this year. Though, maybe a future The Batman sequel will have a need for a different Batgirl.
A commenter, SkeptiCitizen said "She seemed like the perfect batgirl to me while watching Hawkeye, she captures that enthusiastic young girl that would admire Batman and try to what’s right." Another case of Steinfeld's Hawkeye performance being used as a reference point for what her performance may look like.
