PREMIER LEAGUE clubs spent a huge £274MILLION between them in the January transfer window.
But one club stood out overwhelmingly as the biggest buyers – the newly-bought Saudi-backed Newcastle.
The Magpies spent a whopping £85m in the window as they look to avoid relegation back down to the Championship.
Eddie Howe brought in Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid, Dan Burn from Brighton and Matt Targett from Aston Villa in a bid to shore up the defence.
In midfield they have earned themselves a coup by securing Lyon and Brazil star Bruno Guimaraes.
And up front they have added to their prowess in the air by taking Chris Wood away from relegation rivals Burnley.
Aside from Newcastle, the only other club to spend more than £30m in the window was Liverpool.
The Reds brought in highly-rated Porto winger Luis Diaz for an initial fee of £37m.

This has the potential to rise to as much as £50m including add-ons.
At the other end of the scale, eight Premier League clubs did not spend a single penny this month.
Among those sides were Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United – who clearly feel their business in the summer will be enough to see them through until the end of the campaign.
Brentford, Leicester, Norwich, Southampton and West Ham also failed to bring anybody in mid-season.
