A YouTuber has painstakingly recreated the intro to The Simpsons frame-by-frame in Animal Crossing New Horizons, including a chalkboard gag and a couch gag. The opening sequence for The Simpsons is perhaps the most iconic in TV history, showing the family all making their way through the town of Springfield, causing mayhem and chaos as they go, before all arriving at home at the same time. The sequence always shows Bart writing a different phrase on his school's chalkboard, and always ends with a gag involving the family trying to sit down to watch TV on the couch.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the latest version of the life simulator game, which took the world by storm when it was released right as the world was going into lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. The game starts on a desert island, which the player can explore and fill, using custom furniture, animals and characters. As a result, many players have chosen to create real-life locations, or recreate iconic scenes from movies and TV shows. Given the fact that the game allows players to tweak their islands almost endlessly, the possibilities are infinite.
Now, YouTube channel Great-Bit Arcade, which specializes in making pop culture videos in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, has released their version of The Simpsons intro sequence. The intro is recreated in stunning detail and uses a host of characters from the game that look pretty close to their Simpsons counterparts. It also includes the traditional chalkboard gag and a couch gag. The former sees Bart writing, "I promise to pay back all my loans," and the latter sees the family burst into their living room only to find Tom Nook and Isabelle, two characters from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, sitting in their place. You can watch the video below:
This is not the only Simpsons intro parody to be released during the coronavirus pandemic. In the early days of the lockdown, a family created a social distancing-themed version of the iconic intro, and while they win the prize for creativity, this version definitely wins for accuracy. This fan was able to successfully use the game's features to recreate the Simpsons' intro, and it ended up being a great tribute to the classic animated show.
Besides being an almost perfect recreation of the intro to The Simpsons, the video is also a pop culture mash-up for the ages. It combines two massive parts of contemporary pop culture and even manages to get them both to riff on each other at the same time. As a parody video, it's great, and it also works as a time capsule for 2020, the year when half the world had the time to spend hours playing a life simulator game every day.
