JOE Biden has branded Donald Trump an “absolute fool” for mocking his mask-wearing on Memorial Day.
Biden, who wore a black mask and sunglasses on Monday as he paid respects at a veterans cemetery, also slammed Trump for engaging in “macho stuff”.
Speaking to CNN, Biden said: “He’s a fool. An absolute fool to talk that way.
“This macho stuff, for a guy — I shouldn’t get going, but it just, it costs people’s lives.
“It’s costing people’s lives.
“Presidents are supposed to lead, not engage in folly and be falsely masculine.
“I mean, every leading doc in the world is saying we should wear a mask when you’re in a crowd, and especially when you know you’re going to be in a position where you’re going to inadvertently get closer than 12 feet to somebody. I know we’re 12 feet apart, I get that.”
Comparing Trump to people from his school days, Biden said: “It reminds me of the guys that I grew up with playing ball.
“They’d walk around with a ball in their hand, but they didn’t like to hit very much.”
But Trump, speaking to reporters at the White House, said: “You want to be politically correct.
“No. I just want to wear the mask.”
Earlier Trump retweeted a post on Memorial day by Fox News commentator Brit Hume that pictured Biden in a black mask.
Trump appears not to want to be seen wearing a mask.
Trump didn’t wear one on a tour of a Michigan factory last week, but wore one when he was away from the media.
And he has retweeted a post mocking Joe Biden for wearing a face mask at Memorial Day commemorations.
That tweet read: “This might help explain why Trump doesn’t like to wear a mask in public. Biden today.”
Biden and his wife Jill covered their faces to lay a wreath at a Delaware veterans park — in his first trip out of the house in more than two months.
