APC suffers heavy loss as former speaker, 5,000 others return to PDP in S/South state

- The former speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Ignatius Edet, has defected from the APC and returned back to the PDP

- Edet said he returned to the PDP as the reasons why he left the party to the APC no longer exist

- The former speaker said he and his 5,000 supporters will support Governor Udom Emmanuel for re-election

Ignatius Edet, the former speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with over 5,000 supporters.

The defection occurred during Governor Udom Emmanuel's campaign flag-off in in Uyo Township Stadium, Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Edet said he returned to the PDP as the reasons why he left the party to the APC no longer exist.

According to the former speaker, he and his people were marginalised while in the APC. He said he had returned to the PDP to ensure that Governor Udom Emmanuel is re-elected in the forthcoming elections.

He said: “Udom Emmanuel is going back to the Government House. Your Excellency, I am happy to come back home. The things that made me to leave PDP are no more there.

“When I was in APC, they marginalised my people, saying they are god. I have over 5,000 people who are supporting me, that we shall support Udom Emmanuel for 2019."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that four legislators of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly were allegedly sacked by the House after they defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The speaker, Onofiok Luke, during plenary, announced that the seats of the four legislators had become vacant following their defection.
